God Is in the Car

The road system on Guam is not the most ideal. Although Google maps has brought us a long way, I still hear "local directions" from people all the time–"When you're on Marine Drive, you take a left before the stoplight where the old Mark's Sporting Goods used to be." If you're a local, that's excellent information! But if you're a newcomer, you'll have no clue what they are saying.

Sometimes life could be this way. We wish we had the map that told us all the different turns and detours we will face. This would save us from a lot the worry and anxiety that we experience on a daily basis, right?

There are two ways to get to our destination. First, we have the map, which gives us all the road directions we need to get to where we need to be. Or second, we can drive with a local, who knows all the back roads and detours.

God does not give us the map to our individual life's destination. He gives us something far greater. He gets in the car with us and gives us just enough information to get us each step of the way. But in our pride, we want the map, not the Map Maker.

But God always knows what's best. And although we may not know the plan, we can always trust the Plan Maker. He will get us where we need to be every time. We need not be anxious, but we can trust in him each step of the way.

On the left hand when he is working, I do not behold him; he turns to the right hand, but I do not see him. But he knows the way that I take; when he has tried me, I shall come out as gold.

Job 23:9–10.
